Slovakia 1-2 Ukraine: Yaremchuk Scores Late Winner for Ukraine

Never mind his hopeless return pass to Mudryk a few minutes ago, Roman Yaremchuk is the hero of the hour for Ukraine.

The substitute striker scored the winning goal in the 89th minute to give Ukraine a vital 2-1 win over Slovakia in Group E of Euro 2024.

Yaremchuk's winner came after Mykola Shaparenko had canceled out Robert Bozenik's opener for Slovakia. The win keeps Ukraine's hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages alive, while Slovakia are now on the brink of elimination.

Yaremchuk's goal was a moment of magic from the striker, who had been quiet for most of the game. He latched onto a long ball from Oleksandr Karavaev and held off the challenge of Martin Dubravka before firing home from a tight angle.

The goal was a just reward for Ukraine, who had been the better side for much of the game. They had created several chances but had been unable to find a breakthrough until Yaremchuk's late intervention.

Slovakia, meanwhile, will be disappointed with their performance. They started the game brightly but faded after Bozenik's goal. They now need to beat Spain in their final group game to have any chance of reaching the knockout stages.
